Paying for TurboTax Online

Here we provide the answers to some frequently asked questions about paying for TurboTax Online.

Before you pay

  • You don't pay for TurboTax Online until you e-file or print your return for mailing.
  • Payment must be made with a credit card. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are accepted.
  • The credit card you use must have a U.S. billing address
  • The information you provide is used to process your order and register you for TurboTax Online services.
  • TurboTax will not sell or share your information with outside companies for their promotional use.
  • To protect your information, we use industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology when transmitting your information over the Internet.
  • Your e-mail address is not required. However, if you choose to provide it, we'll use it to keep you up to date with the latest tax law changes, as well as any TurboTax updates you should know about.
  • If you exit TurboTax Online from the payment screen, your information will be saved and your credit card will not be charged. You won't be able to print your return or e-file until you pay.
  • If there's a problem with your credit card authorization, you'll have the opportunity to use a different credit card or contact your credit card company to correct the problem.
  • You can prepare and file up to three (3) state returns with TurboTax Online. To add a second or third state before you pay, select the State Taxes tab, and proceed to the "Choose a State" screen.

After you pay

  • You can't change your credit card information after it's been confirmed and accepted.
  • On the "Order Received" screen, make a note of your Order Number in case you ever need to contact us about TurboTax Online.
  • Review your information on the "Order Confirmation" screen to make sure it's correct. The personal information that appears on this screen is for information only. Only a portion of your credit card number will display.
