Error 1324: Invalid character

Error 1324 occurs when installing TurboTax.

error-1324

Possible Causes

Error 1324 can be caused by

  • Forbidden characters (such as / \ : * ? " < > |) in the TurboTax installation folder's name; or
  • A registry key contains an invalid character in a Data field.

Solutions

To resolve this issue:

  1. Look for forbidden characters in the TurboTax installation folder's name:
    1. Search for the file TurboTax 2008 Installer.exe.
    2. Examine the path to the file located in the In Folder column. The entry after the last back-slash (\) is the installation folder. The folder name should only contain letters, numbers, or spaces.
      • If the folder name is valid, go to Step 2.
      • Otherwise, rename that folder by browsing to it (right-click the Windows Start button > Explore > enter the path up to but not including the invalid folder name in the Address field). Then right-click the folder, choose Rename, and enter a valid folder name. When finished, install TurboTax.
  2. If the folder name is valid, follow the steps in the "Resolution" section of this Microsoft Support article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327763. When finished, install TurboTax.
