Error 9175: The state installer did not run properly

Error 9175 occurs when you attempt to install your TurboTax state.

To resolve this error, follow these steps:

  1. From the Online menu in TurboTax, select One-click Updates.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to update TurboTax.
  3. Install your TurboTax state.


If the preceding steps don't resolve the issue, try this:

  1. Delete the following files (the default location is C:\Program Files\TurboTax\[version] 2006\DlInst):
    • XXdata1.cab
    • XXdata1.hdr
    • XXdata2.cab, where XX is your two-letter state abbreviation.
  2. Start TurboTax.
  3. From the Online menu, choose Download State.
  4. Select your state, and then click Continue.
  5. When prompted, click Reinstall.
  6. Click the Download and install link.
  7. When downloading is completed, click the Install link.


If the preceding steps don't resolve the issue, your TurboTax sdi.exe file may be damaged. Follow the steps below.

Important: If you've started your return, save your tax file before proceeding. (See the Save your return to your desktop section in the Save Your Tax Return article.)

  1. Do one of the following to install the TurboTax federal product:
    • Install the product CD.
    • Double-click the downloaded product file.
