The following error might occur while installing TurboTax 2004:
CRC error: The file fdi04f01.1pe does not match the file setup.cab. Contact your software vendor. Medium may be corrupted.
Note: The exact error message may vary slightly (i.e., the file name fdi04f01.1pe might be replaced by a similar file name beginning with the letters fdi).
This error can occur if either your TurboTax product CD or your computer's CD drive is dirty or defective.
To resolve this error, follow these steps:
- Install TurboTax.
If the solution above doesn't work, follow the steps below to install TurboTax 2004 with a replacement fdi04f01.1pe file.
- Make sure that you have at least 600 MB of hard disk space. See View Free Disk Space (Windows).
- Insert the TurboTax CD into your computer's CD drive.
- Right-click an empty area on the Windows desktop, select New, and then select Folder to create a folder on your desktop.
- Right-click the Windows Start button, and select Explore. In the left pane, locate the folder for your CD drive (usually drive D or E), and then click once to select it.
- From the Edit menu, choose Select All.
- From the Edit menu, select Copy. Click OK if a message asks if you want to copy hidden files.
- On your desktop, right-click the folder you created in Step 3 (named New Folder by default), and then choose Paste. Click Ignore if you receive a message about the fdi04f01.1pe file.
- After copying is completed, click the following link, and then click Save to copy the replacement file:
