What can I import into TurboTax?
Quicken
- You can import Quicken 2007, 2008, and 2009 data directly into TurboTax 2008.
- For Quicken 2006 and earlier, you must first create a tax exchange format (.txf) file which you can then import into TurboTax 2008.
- You can import from multiple Quicken, QuickBooks and/or .txf files. If existing data conflicts with the data you're trying to import, you have the option to either skip the import or replace the existing data.
- Quicken data cannot be imported into TurboTax Business.
QuickBooks
- You can import QuickBooks 2007, 2008, and 2009 data into TurboTax 2008 desktop software for Windows.
- You can import from multiple Quicken, QuickBooks and/or .txf files. If existing data conflicts with the data you're trying to import, you have the option to either skip the import or replace the existing data
- QuickBooks data cannot be imported into TurboTax Online or TurboTax desktop software for Mac.
Tax Exchange Format (.txf) files
- TurboTax desktop software (except TurboTax Business) can import from any program that creates .txf files, such as Quicken or Quicken Rental Property Manager.
- You can import from multiple Quicken, QuickBooks and/or .txf files. If existing data conflicts with the data you're trying to import, you have the option to either skip the import or replace the existing data.
- .txf files cannot be imported into TurboTax Business.
ItsDeductible
- ItsDeductible Online 2008 data will import into both desktop software and online versions of TurboTax Deluxe, Premier, and Home & Business (for both Windows and Mac).
W-2s, stock sales, and other financial information
You can import from multiple financial institutions, such as your payroll provider or brokerage firm.
What can't I import into TurboTax?
You cannot import:
- Quicken data into TurboTax Business
- QuickBooks data into TurboTax Online or TurboTax desktop software for Mac
- Data from QuickBooks 2006 or earlier versions
- .txf files into TurboTax Online or TurboTax Business
- Data cannot be imported into Form 1041 (Estate and Trust) returns
How do I import?
To learn how to import, choose one of the following situations:
Can I update or delete imported information?
You can, but the information in your financial program will no longer match what's in your tax return.
Instead of changing imported information, we recommend that you update the information in your financial program before importing. If you've already imported, you can re-import the information after you've updated it in your financial program (be sure to select the replace option when prompted).
