Resolve Missing Buttons in the TurboTax Interview
There may be some instances while you're navigating through the EasyStep Interview within TurboTax and a Continue button or other type of navigational button is missing and you cannot continue preparing your tax return. Depending on where you are within the Interview when this situation occurs, use one of the solutions listed below to resolve your issue:

Navigation Buttons Missing on Retrieving Investment Income screen
While attempting to import investment information from your financial institution, the navigation buttons are not visible on the Retrieving Investment Income screen. This occurs when your display resolution is set at 800x600. To view the navigation buttons you can adjust your display resolution setting or hide the task bar.
Adjusting your display resolution
- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel
- Click Display
- Click the Settings tab
- Adjust the Screen Resolution more than 800x600 by manipulating the slider as necessary.
- Click OK to apply the change and close the window.
Hide the Windows taskbar
- Right-click with your mouse on the Windows taskbar and click Properties
- Select Auto-hide the taskbar
- Click OK to apply the change and close the window.

Buttons and Images not Displayed in TurboTax
If images and buttons are not displayed correctly in TurboTax, it may be because the Show Pictures option in Internet Explorer is disabled.
To resolve this problem, ensure pictures are enabled in Internet Explorer:
- Close TurboTax.
- From the Start menu, select Settings, and then select Control Panel.
- Double-click the Internet Options icon.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Scroll down to the Multimedia group and ensure the Show Pictures checkbox is selected.
- Click OK.

- Start TurboTax.
Resolve Blank Screens or Buttons in TurboTax
The following symptoms indicate that scripting is not enabled on your computer:
- Start Return button is missing.
- Selecting Overview, Find Tax Help or Using TurboTax does nothing.
- Selecting One-click Updates opens the TurboTax Setup Wizard.
- Send Us Feedback opens a blank window.
- The File an Extension and Amend a Return links don't work.
These symptoms are a function of your computer's settings, not your TurboTax software. To fix the problem, follow the steps below to enable scripting.
Enable scripting in Internet Explorer
- Close TurboTax.
- Open Internet Explorer.
- From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
- Select Security.
- Select My Computer, and then select Custom Level.
Note: If you do not see My Computer in the list, go to the Add information to your registry section below. - Scroll down to Scripting, and then find Active scripting and select Enable.
- Select OK, then select Yes to confirm, and then select OK to close the Internet Options window.
- Open TurboTax. All buttons should be there, and all links restored.
If this solution doesn't work, follow the steps below to add information to your registry.
Add information to your registry
Follow these steps:
- Click here, and then select Open to run the registry script.
- Select Yes when prompted to add the information to the registry.
- From the Windows Start menu, select Settings, and then select Control Panel.
- Double-click Internet Options.
- From the Security tab, highlight the icon named My Computer, and then select Custom Level.
- From the Reset to drop-down menu, select Low, and then select Reset.
- Select OK twice, and then close Internet Explorer.
- You should now be able use TurboTax. If the problem is resolved, you can change your settings back to High by repeating steps 3 through 5 above and choosing High.
| Tip: TurboTax uses scripting to generate the buttons and windows you see inside the program. Errors occur when scripting has been disabled, often times by a third-party security program. |
