What is Form 1099-R?

Form 1099-R an IRS form you receive that reports any distributions from retirement plans, pensions, profit-sharing plans, IRAs (including Roth IRAs), annuities, and insurance contracts. This does not include Civil Service Retirement Annuities (reported on Form CSA-1099-R or Form CSF-1099-R) or Railroad Retirement Pensions (reported on Form RRB-1099-R).

How do I Enter Form 1099-R?

For TurboTax Basic, Deluxe, or Premier:

  1. Select the Federal Taxes tab, then select Income.
  2. In the Choose How to Enter Your Income screen, select the Select Specific Topics button.
  3. In the Your Income screen, select Retirement Distributions
  4. Select the Start or Revisit button for IRA and Pension Distributions.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. In the Enter Form 1099-R screen, enter all of your information in this screen exactly as it appears on the Form 1099-R you received.
    • Make sure you enter a distribution code(s) in Box 7.

For TurboTax Home & Business:

  1. Select the Personal tab, then select Personal Income.
  2. In the Your Personal Income screen, select the Select Specific Topics button.
  3. In the Your Personal Income screen, select Retirement Distributions.
  4. Select the Start or Revisit button for Retirement Distributions (IRA and Pensions).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. In the Enter Form 1099-R screen, enter all of your information in this screen exactly as it appears on the Form 1099-R you received.
    • Make sure you enter a distribution code(s) in Box 7.
