What is Form 1099-MISC?

Form 1099-MISC (Statement for Recipients of Miscellaneous Income) is used to report the following payments:

  • Rent or royalty payments, prizes and awards that are not for services, such as winnings on radio or television shows ($600 or more, except $10 or more for royalties).
  • All payments to crew members by owners or operators of fishing boats from proceeds from sale of catch.
  • Payments of $600 or more for services performed for a trade or business by people not treated as its employees (such as subcontractors).
  • Payments to a physician, physicians' corporation or other supplier of health and medical services, issued mainly by medical assistance programs or health and accident insurance plans ($600 or more).
  • State and Federal tax withheld in conjunction with any of the other activities reportable on the form.
  • Crop insurance proceeds.
  • Substitute dividend and tax-exempt interest reportable by brokers ($10 or more).

How do I Enter Form 1099-MISC?

For TurboTax Basic, Deluxe, or Premier:

  1. Select the Federal Taxes tab, then select Income.
  2. In the Your Income screen, select the Select Specific Topics button
  3. In the Your Income screen, select Other Common Income.
  4. Select the Start or Revisit button for Income from Form 1099-MISC.

  1. Follow the on-screen instructions for entering information from your 1099-MISC.

For TurboTax Home & Business:

  1. Select the Business tab, then select Business Income & Expenses.
  2. In the Your Business Income screen, select the Specific Topics button.
  3. In the Your Business Income screen, select Business Income and Expenses
    • Select the Start or Revisit button then follow the on-screen instructions to complete your business profile.
  4. In the Your Business screen, select the Start or Revisit button for Income.
  5. In the Business Income screen, select the Start or Revisit button for 1099-Misc Income.

  1. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your 1099-MISC information.
    • You can Add, Edit, or Delete Form 1099-MISC in this section.
