Start Over in TurboTax Online

If you haven't paid for your TurboTax Online tax return yet, you can delete your state return or clear information from your federal and state returns.

To delete specific forms from your return, see Remove Forms from Your Return.

Delete your state return

Sometimes you need to delete your state tax return so you can start over. Here's how:

  1. Sign in TurboTax Online.
  2. Click the State Taxes tab, and then click the Your State Returns button.
  3. Click Delete next to the return you want to remove, and then click Delete to confirm.
Important: You will not be able to delete your state return in TurboTax Online if you've already paid for it. Once you've paid for your state return, the Delete link disappears from view.

Clear your entire return and start over

To clear your federal and any state returns:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax Online 2008.
  2. Once you're connected, you should be on the Home tab (the "Welcome back" screen).
  3. In the We can help you... section at the bottom of the page, click the Clear your 2008 return and start over link.
  4. Click the Yes, Clear My Return button.
  5. On the next screen, click Continue.
Important: You will not be able to clear your TurboTax Online return if you've already paid for it, or if you're trying to clear information that automatically transferred over from your 2007 TurboTax Online return.
