Finding Topics or Forms in TurboTax

With TurboTax, there are several ways to find the place in the Interview to input your data. The first thing you should try is the following:

  1. Start TurboTax.
  2. Click Search Topics or Forms at the top of the screen.

  1. In the Search Topics or Forms dialog box, scroll through the list that displays.
  2. Select an item in the list that you want to see, or type in keywords you are looking for and then select the Go button.

  1. TurboTax takes to directly to the screen of the topic you selected.

If you have a more unusual tax topic or the Get Answers method did not provide the results you were looking for, you can do a specific search from the in-product help content.

TurboTax Desktop

If you have a specific question about how to do something in TurboTax Desktop or about a specific tax issue, try this: 

  1. Start TurboTax.
  2. Go to the Get Answers box on the left side of the screen.

  1. Select Using TurboTax, and then select TurboTax Tips. The TurboTax Help & Info Center screen appears.
  2. In the Ask a question... search box at the top, type Entering Information in the search box, and then select the Ask button.
  3. Select Entering Information, the first topic in the list. A list of help documents related to entering information in your return appears.
  4. Select any topic to learn about entering information in your return.
  5. Select the Print button to print a topic.

You can use the Ask a question... box at the top of the TurboTax Help & Info Center screen to ask very specific questions about what you want to enter in your return as well.

Try asking a specific question about where do I enter...? and see the results.

TurboTax Online

When using TurboTax Online, use our in-product help. You can be very specific about what you're looking for and the help will be specific, too.

  1. Sign in to your tax return.
  2. On the top right corner of the screen, click on TurboTax Help, found to the left of the Sign Out link.

  1. Enter a specific question, such as Where do I enter rental property?, and then select the Search button. You will find links to articles that match your search.
  2. To view a list of help topics for TurboTax Online, click on the Tools button (near the red screwdriver).
