This message occurs when e-filing your tax return. Here's the complete message:

The Intuit Electronic Filing Center is having difficulty recognizing the data you are sending. Please try again.

How to resolve this error

To resolve this error, you need to re-enter your credit card information.

  1. Open your federal tax return in the TurboTax program.
  2. Select the Print & File tab.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to the Charge Your E-filing Fee Interview screen, remove all your credit card information, and then click Continue.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to the Transmit Your Returns Interview screen, and then click the Transmit Returns Now button. The TurboTax program attempts to transmit your tax return.
  5. Select the Fix Errors button, and then re-enter your credit card information.
    Note: Make sure that you enter your name and billing address exactly as it appears on your credit/debit card statement.
  6. From the File menu, select Save.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to the Transmit Your Returns screen, and then select the Transmit Returns Now button. The TurboTax program transmits your return to the Electronic Filing Center.

If you are still unable to e-file your tax return, repeat the steps above using a different credit card number, or print and file your tax return by mail.
