IRS Form 8453-OL Eliminated for Tax Year 2008

Didn't I sign on paper last year?

If you e-filed your tax return last year, you may have signed and filed a paper form (Form 8453-OL). However, the IRS has discontinued this signature option and eliminated Form 8453-OL.

Going forward, if you electronically prepare and file your return using any online software program, you're required to use the Self-Select PIN method to verify your identity with the IRS. The Self-Select PIN method allows you to "sign" your return using a five-digit PIN and the prior year Adjusted Gross Income OR the prior year PIN.

Note: To send any supporting documents that are required to be submitted to the IRS, you must print and file Form 8453, U.S. Individual Income Tax Transmittal for an IRS e-file Return.
