Error 0522: The date of birth you entered...
This message occurs when checking the status of an e-filed return.
Here's the complete message:
Error 0522: The date of birth you entered on this return does not match what the IRS has in its files for you. The IRS receives this information from the Social Security Administration (SSA).
Do the following:
- Open your return in TurboTax Desktop or log in to TurboTax Online.
- Select the Personal Info tab, and then select About You.
- Press the Continue button to navigate to the Enter Your Personal Information screen.
- Verify the taxpayer's date of birth, name, and social security number.
- If this information is incorrect, update it, save your return, and then re-file. You will not be charged again to re-file the same return electronically.
- If this information is correct, call the Social Security Administration (SSA) at (800) 772-1213 and verify the information that they have on file.
- If the SSA has incorrect information, then submit a request to have the information changed. This process generally takes 4 to 6 weeks.
If you are filing a tax return for a deceased taxpayer or spouse, you must remove the self-select PIN (electronic signature) from the return and e-file again using the paper signature option.
Note: Because you cannot use an electronic signature, you must send Form 8453-OL to the IRS. TurboTax will guide you on how to do this.
Do the following:
- Open your return in TurboTax desktop or log in to TurboTax Online.
- Select the Print & File tab, and then select E-file.
- Navigate through the TurboTax Interview screens until the Choose a Signing Method for E-filing screen appears.
- Select Sign On Paper.
- Continue through the TurboTax Interview screens to e-file your return again. You will not be charged again to re-file the same return electronically.
- Once your return is accepted, the TurboTax program guides you through filling out and mailing Form 8453-OL. For details, see the Sign your return on paper (form 8453-OL) section of our How to E-file document.
