Error: Transmission Failed Error When E-filing

This issue is related to several different transmission errors that can occur when attempting to e-file your return. This is often related to changes made to your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser settings. In many cases, these setting changes are made by a third-party Internet security software.

How to resolve this issue

You can often resolve this by re-setting your browser settings to their default values.

Note: These setting changes are needed in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) even if you don't use IE as your default browser. TurboTax uses IE 6.0 to transmit your return regardless of the browser you use.
  1. Open Internet Explorer in Windows.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, select the Advanced Tab, then select the Restore Defaults button.
  4. Select OK.
Tip: The specific settings that can cause this issue are the secure sockets layer (SSL) options: Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0. These three settings must be selected so that you can establish a secure connection with the TurboTax software.

If you prefer not to restore your default settings, you can select these three options from the Advanced tab in Step 3 above instead of selecting the Restore Defaults button.
