How to resolve this error

You'll need to check the accuracy of the employer or payer identification numbers on your Form W-2s, W-2Gs and 1099-Rs:

  1. Open your return in TurboTax desktop or log on to TurboTax Online.
  2. Select the Federal Taxes tab, and then select Income.
  3. In the Choose How to Enter Your Income screen, click the Select Specific Topics button.
  4. In the Your Income Summary screen, select the appropriate income topic to check the employer identification numbers for each form that you received (W-2, W-2G, 1099-R):
    • If the employer/payer identification numbers were entered incorrectly, enter the correct numbers.
    • If the employer/payer identification numbers were entered correctly, notify your employers and/or payers and request a corrected Form W-2, Form W-2G or Form 1099-R with the correct identification number. Do not e-file your return until you receive the corrected identification numbers from the employer/payer.
  5. Go to Wrap-Up to check for errors, then e-file your return. You will not be charged to e-file the same tax return again.
