Error 67186429: Unable to detect an Internet connection
Error 67186429 may occur when TurboTax needs to connect to the Internet to complete a task (e.g., updating your software or downloading your state) :
Unable to detect [or verify presence of] an Internet connection
Error 67186429: A connection with the server could not be established
This error can occur if you do not have administrator rights for the task you're trying to perform or if your computer's security software prevents TurboTax from connecting to the Internet.
To resolve this error, follow the steps below.
- Verify that you have administrator rights on your computer. See Administrator Rights (Windows).
- Temporarily disable your computer's security software:
- Temporarily turn off your firewall, virus-detection, and any filtering (e.g., parental control) software. (See Configure Your Firewall Software and Turn Off Your Virus-Detection Software.)

Important: While your firewall, virus-detection, and filtering software is disabled, we recommend closing any other programs that access the Internet, including e-mail. Be sure to turn on your security software after you complete your task in TurboTax.
- In TurboTax, complete your task (e.g., updating).
- If the error occurs again, proceed to Step 3.

- Download/install the Internet Connection client:
- Click ICUpdate.exe and save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click the icon on your desktop.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
- In TurboTax, complete your task (e.g., updating your software).
- If the error occurs again, proceed to Step 4.

- Update your version of Internet Explorer:
- Exit TurboTax and close all open programs.
- Click the appropriate link:
- For Windows 2000, download and install the Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 update.
- For Windows XP, download and install Internet Explorer 6 or higher.
- For Windows Vista, download and install Internet Explorer 7.
- Restart your computer.
- Set your Internet connection to work with TurboTax.
- Launch TurboTax, and then complete your task (e.g., updating).
- If the error occurs again, proceed to Step 5.
- Start your computer in safe mode, launch TurboTax, and then complete your task (e.g., updating).
| Note: Your Internet service provider (ISP) might use routing hardware that blocks the Internet client in TurboTax. If you suspect this is the case, contact your ISP for additional assistance. |
