Upgrade TurboTax (personal Desktop versions)
Because everyone's tax situation is different, we've created four different personal (Form 1040) versions of TurboTax 2008 (see TurboTax Product Comparison.)
After starting your return, you may find you need a version that has more features. You can upgrade to a fuller-featured TurboTax product (up to the Home & Business version) at any time before filing your return, without having to start over.
Please note that you cannot upgrade from a personal 1040 version to TurboTax Business because the underlying main forms are different.
Note: Upgrading differs from updating. Upgrading means trading up to a fuller-featured TurboTax 2008 product, whereas updating means applying free product updates to your TurboTax 2008 product.Upgrade to TurboTax Deluxe
How to upgrade from TurboTax Basic to Deluxe:
- At the top of the TurboTax screen select the Federal Taxes tab and then select Deductions and Credits.
- Select Guide Me Through and answer Yes on the Any Home Mortgage Payments? screen.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for either purchasing online or by phone.
Upgrade to TurboTax Premier
How to upgrade from TurboTax Basic or Deluxe to Premier:
- At the top of the TurboTax screen select the Federal Taxes tab and then select Income.
- Select the Select Specific Topics button.
- Select View List on the Investment Income line.
- Start or Revisit the Stocks, Mutual Funds, Other Investments topic and answer Yes on the Any Investment Sales? screen.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for either purchasing online or by phone.
Upgrade To TurboTax Home & Business
How to upgrade from TurboTax Deluxe or Premier to Home & Business:
- At the top of the TurboTax screen select the Federal Taxes tab and then select Income.
- Select the Select Specific Topics button.
- Start or Revisit the Business Income topic and answer Yes on Any Business Income or Expenses? screen.
- Click Continue on the next 7 screens. This will take you to the There's a Better Product for You screen.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for either purchasing online or by phone.
