Free Tax Advice is a free service by TurboTax experts who provide live tax help related to 2011 U.S. Federal and State tax returns. You can start working on your tax return in TurboTax and get free personalized answers directly from our experts if you need it.

Our TurboTax experts are knowledgeable, highly-trained, U.S.-based tax professionals — IRS Enrolled Agents(EAs), Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) or Juris Doctors (JDs.). Our team includes over 700 tax professionals and we have tax advisors in all 50 states.

What is an enrolled agent?

According to the IRS, "an enrolled agent is a person who has earned the privilege of practicing, that is, representing taxpayers, before the Internal Revenue Service. Enrolled agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can practice before."

There are two ways to get free tax advice from a tax expert:

1. On the TurboTax.com Support site
   1. Click on the Contact Us button.
   2. Select Preparing My Return.
   3. Choose a topic area that fits your tax question.
      
   4. Click on I have a question about tax rules.
      

 

2. In the TurboTax product
   1. Click on the Get Expert Help button.
      
   2. Enter your tax question then click on the GO button.
      
   3. Review the Recommended Answers to see if one answers your question.
   4. To contact a tax expert, click on either the Chat With Us button or the Call Us button.
