What do I do if the real estate tax on Form 1098 is negative?

A negative amount for real estate taxes listed on Form 1098 may indicate that a refund was issued to your escrow account. It could be that too much was paid by an escrow company or a lender, or you may have qualified for a lower tax rate. You should check with your lender to find out whether the negative amount on the 1098 is correct or a typo.
