Can I deduct the registration fee for my car?

You may be able to take an itemized deduction on Schedule A for all or part of the registration fee. To be deductible, the fee must be based on the value of the car and charged on a yearly basis. License fees and fees for car tags are not deductible for federal purposes. You may be able to deduct these on your state return.
