Can I deduct mortgage interest on a second home?

You can deduct mortgage interest as an itemized deduction for a second home as long as it is not offered for sale or rent during the year. If the second home is rented out during the year you must also use it as a home for more than 14 days or more than 10% of the number of days the home is rented. You can claim mortgage interest on a maximum of two homes.  If you rent out the second home you can deduct the mortgage interest as a rental expense.
