Can I deduct mortgage interest for the part of my home I rent out?

If you rent part of your home you can treat the rented part as being used by you if it is used primarily for residential living, is not a self-contained unit with separate sleeping, cooking and toilet facilities and is not rented to more than two people at any time during the year. Two people who sleep in the same room are considered as one. In this case you would deduct all of the mortgage interest as an itemized deduction in TurboTax, found in your federal return under Deductions & Credits.
