A charitable organization is non-profit and usually operated for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes or for the prevention of cruelty to animals or children. Organizations for the development of amateur sports, war veterans, fraternal orders or the USA or a state may qualify. You can usually get this information from the organization. You can also go to www.irs.gov/charities to search for eligible organizations.
