Are foster care expenses tax deductible?
Updated: 1/21/2013
Article ID: IAS10310
Some costs of foster care can be deducted as charitable contributions if you have no profit motive or actual profit and have a qualified organization that designates the children you foster. Expenses must be unreimbursed expenses to feed, clothe and care for the child, and must mainly benefit the qualified organization. Expenses that you cannot deduct may be considered support provided by you in determining whether the child is your dependent.
