Resolved:Quick Employer Forms Incorrect Error Message For Social Security Tax Withheld

When creating W-2's using Quick Employer Forms (QEF)

QEF was generating an incorrect error message for Social Security Tax Withheld when (Box 3) Social Security Wages are between $110,096 and $110,100

QEF would incorrectly populate an amount of $4624 for (Box 4) Social Security tax withheld for wages over $110,095

QEF would then generate an incorrect error message displayed below when this amount was corrected.

Who Is Affected?

If your Social Security Wages are between $110,096 and $110,100 you will be affected by this issue.

If the Social Security wages are        then     Social Security tax withheld should be

  • $110,096                                                             $4624.03
  • $110,097                                                             $4624.07
  • $110.098                                                             $4624.12
  • $110,099                                                             $4624.16
  • $110,100                                                             $4624.20

The error message would incorrectly generate for any Social Security tax withheld over $4624.00

Workaround:

If the amount of Social Security tax withheld entered in Box 4 is exactly 4.2% of the amount of Social Security wages entered in Box 3

Then ignore the error message and continue to process the W-2

The incorrect error notification did not prevent e-filing in QEF
