Upgrade TurboTax (personal Desktop versions)

Because everyone's tax situation is different, we've created four different personal (Form 1040) versions of TurboTax 2010 (see TurboTax Product Comparison.)

After starting your return, you may find you need a version that has more features. You can upgrade to a fuller-featured TurboTax product (up to the Home & Business version) at any time before filing your return, without having to start over.

Please be aware that:

• Once you've upgraded, you cannot downgrade back to your original version.
• You cannot upgrade from a personal 1040 version to TurboTax Business because the underlying main forms are different.

Note: Upgrading differs from updating. Upgrading means trading up to a fuller-featured TurboTax 2010 product, whereas updating means applying free product updates to your TurboTax 2010 product.

 

• Upgrade to TurboTax Deluxe
• Upgrade to TurboTax Premier
• Upgrade to TurboTax Home & Business
• Upgrade TurboTax desktop for Macintosh products

How to upgrade from TurboTax Basic to Deluxe:

1. At the top of the TurboTax screen select the Federal Taxes tab and then select Deductions and Credits.
2. Select Explore on My Own.
3. Under the Your Home heading, select Start or Update on  the Mortgage Interest section .
4. Answer Yes to the question "Did you have any home loans in 2010?"
5. Select Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions for either purchasing online or by phone.

How to upgrade from TurboTax Basic or Deluxe to Premier:

1. At the top of the TurboTax screen select the Federal Taxes tab and then select Wages & Income.
2. Select Explore on My Own.
3. Under the Investment Income heading, select Start or Update the Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other section.  .
4. Answer Yes on the Investment Sales screen.
5. Select Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions for either purchasing online or by phone.

How to upgrade from TurboTax Deluxe or Premier to Home & Business:

1. At the top of the TurboTax screen select the Federal Taxes tab and then select Wages & Income.
2. Select Explore on My Own.
3. Go down to the Business Income and Expenses section. Select Start or Update on the Profit or Loss from Business topic.
4. Answer Yes on the Your Business Income and Expenses screen.
5. Select Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions for either purchasing online or by phone.
