Ports and Addresses Used by TurboTax
TurboTax needs to connect to the Internet through ports 80 and 443 to perform tasks such as downloading software updates and e-filing.
To access these services, be sure any virus-protection and firewall programs on your computer allow the TurboTax programs listed below to access the Internet.
For specific instructions, refer to your firewall and virus-protection software's Help files and/or Support website.
TurboTax Programs that Access the Internet
Your firewall will also need to be configured to allow unrestricted Internet access for specific files. The files you will need to set up in your firewall's exception list are listed below.
(Replace version with Basic, Deluxe, etc. and yyyy with the tax year; for example Deluxe 2011)
- TurboTax.exe – found in C:/Program Files/TurboTax/version yyyy/32bit
- IntuitUpdater.exe – found in C:/Program Files/Common Files/Intuit/Update Service
- IntuitUpdateService.exe – found in C:/Program Files/Common Files/Intuit/Update Service
In TurboTax for Mac, the file is TurboTax yyyy.app – found in Applications/TurboTax version yyyy.
