Error 17504562761 or 18417470932: Read/write protected memory

If your TurboTax 2011 update fails and you then click the What is sent in the error report? link in the Problem Reporter, you get Error 17504562761 or Error 18417470932.

In prior-year versions, the error codes are different, for example Error 17184580342 or Error 20897806248, but the one constant is that they all have 11 digits.

Possible Cause

A system utility program (e.g., Avanquest Software's Recovery Commander or Fix-It Utilities and ImagineLAN Inc.'s ConfigSafe) is interfering with the automatic update function in TurboTax.

Solution for Recovery Commander or Fix-It Utilities users

We are working with these third-party software manufacturers to resolve this issue. In the meantime, disabling Recovery Commander's checkpoint monitor should resolve this issue:

  1. Close TurboTax and open Recovery Commander.
  2. Click the Change Settings button.
  3. Clear the Install Guard Enabled checkbox, then click OK.
  4. Reopen TurboTax and try updating again. If the problem persists, try one of these solutions or workarounds:
