How to Clear Your Cache

Your computer stores recently viewed Web pages in the Temporary Internet Files folder, also called a "cache."

If the cache fills up, your computer may slow down or suffer other performance issues.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Microsoft's support article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260897 has a downloadable Fix It Tool that will clean out your Temporary Internet Files folder.

The article also includes step-by-step instructions, if you prefer to do it yourself.

Mozilla Firefox

Follow these steps:

  1. At the top of your browser window, click Tools, then click Options.
  2. Click the Privacy tab, and then click Settings under Private Data.
  3. In the Clear Private Data window, be sure Cache is selected, and then click OK.
