Error 161 - When saving a tax return
Error 161 - When saving a tax return in TurboTax desktop.
Error 161 can occur in several areas of the TurboTax Interview where the program wants to save your return.
Error 161 can also occur if the TurboTax return is being used by another process -- this is, it's open in another instance of TurboTax.
Try these workarounds:
- Save your return by selecting Save As...in the File menu and renaming the tax return.
- Close the other process using the tax return. If you can't see or find the other process using the file, restarting your computer will release the file and allow you to open it.
