Error: Incorrect FEIN Entered in the S-Corp Pass-Through Section of Virginia Form 502

When e-filing your business returns to include an S-Corp or LLC, you may encounter an error on the 2011 Virginia Form 502. When entering your federal employer ID number (FEIN) in the S-Corp Pass-Through information box, an error message may display that indicates you aren't correctly entering the number.

Solution

To correctly enter the FEIN you will need to begin with the number 38. The required number format is as follows: 38-FEIN-F-001. An example of a correct entry looks like this: 38-270960609F-001.
