Error: "Windows cannot open this file"

The error message Windows cannot open this file occurs when double-clicking the TurboTax installer ("vise-grip") desktop icon after downloading the file.

One reason this occurs is because the file name extension .exe is missing from the downloaded file. Windows doesn't know what to "do" with the file, hence the error message.

To fix this, rename the file by adding .exe to the end of the file name. You can either right-click the icon and choose Rename, or slowly double-click the icon to make the file name accessible.
