Alabama Total Income Includes Wages Earned in New York

When preparing the State of Alabama return, the total Alabama income exceeds federal wages from w-2.

Investigation Information

This issue may occur if wages were earned in New York as a non resident. New York is now including total federal wages earned in and outside of New York. The state of Alabama captures all information that is entered on box 16 of the federal w-2, therefore causing the total wages to be more than what was actually earned.

To resolve the issue you must manually adjust the NY w-2 entries to what was earned in New York. Revisit the W-2 section of the program and enter the New York portion only.
