This error message occurs when attempting to install TurboTax directly from a networked or shared drive:
Sorry but TurboTax can only be installed if the software is located on a local drive. Please copy the software to a local drive to install.
(Older versions of TurboTax may display Error 1640: Installation from a Terminal Server client session not permitted for current user.)
Solution
To resolve this issue, copy the entire TurboTax folder (not just the setup.exe file) to your desktop or hard drive, and then double-click the setup.exe file on your local computer to install TurboTax.
