What is a section 457 plan?

A Section 457 plan is a tax-deferred retirement plan funded by employee contributions.

These plans are similar to 401(k) and 403(b) plans. What makes them different is that they are established by state or local governments and tax-exempt organizations for the benefit of their employees.
