Where to Enter Information from Forms CSA and CSF 1099-R in TurboTax
Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) benefits are generally shown on forms:
- CSA-1099-R Statement of Annuity Paid (for Civil Service retirees)
- CSF-1099-R Statement of Survivor Annuity Paid (for survivors of Civil Service employees)

How to enter Form CSA-1099-R or CSF-1099-R information
In TurboTax, find the Form 1099-R entry area under:
- Federal Taxes tab (Personal Tab in Home & Business product),
- Wages & Income button, click on Explore on My Own.
- On the Your 2011 Income Summary page, scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security.
- Click Start/Update next to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plans (1099-R).
You can also find the Your 1099-R screen by entering “rrb-1099-r” in the search box at the upper right area of your program and clicking Find.
On the Your 1099-R screen, select Yes. Check how you want to enter your informaiton and select Continue.
Enter the payer and recipient information, then the annuity information. Be sure to enter the box 7 distribution code, as this determines how your payment is handled for tax purposes.
The interview asks about periodic payments. These are funds you receive on a regular intervals over a predetermined period of time, such as 15 years, or maybe for life. Check your plan for how to answer these questions.
Depending on the dates and rules of your pension, a portion of your payments may be excluded from your income using one of two methods, either the General Rule or the Simplified Method.
