What is Form RRB-1099?
Form 1099-R has several variations for reporting distributions (payments) from retirement benefit and profit sharing plans, IRAs, Insurance contracts, pensions, and annuities. Form RRB-1099 is one of these 1099-R variations. In addition, the RRB-1099 itself comes in two versions, as follows--
- Form RRB-1099 is for the Social Security portion of Railroad Retirement Benefits
- Form RRB-1099-R is for the Pension portion of Railroad Retirement Benefits
If you are not sure which form you have, you should be able to tell by the boxes reporting your information. Form RRB-1099 typically shows the Medicare premium in Box 11. Form RRB-1099-R typically shows the Medicare premium in Box 12.
