Can I get a refund of the e-filing fee if my state return is rejected?

Note: We only charge e-filing fees for personal state tax returns prepared in TurboTax CD/Download software (except New York, which doesn't allow it). E-filing is included in the preparation fee for TurboTax Online products. More info
We'll refund your TurboTax software state e-filing fee if:
- We instructed you to override a calculated figure, or a known program error is preventing you from successfully e-filing your state return; or
- You were accidentally charged a second e-filing fee when you resubmitted your rejected state return. In this case, we'll refund the double charge.
Otherwise, because the e-filing fee covers the cost of transmitting your state tax return (whether or not the state taxing agency ultimately accepts it), our policy is to not issue refunds on e-filing fees.
If your state return was rejected, you can fix and resubmit it without paying the e-filing fee again. See Resolve an E-filing Rejection.
