Entering Your Pre-Paid Code in TurboTax Online

Important: If your financial institution, employer, insurer, etc. offers you a TurboTax Online discount (typically 10-15%), you do not need a pre-paid code. Your discount is automatically applied as long as you start AND finish your TurboTax Online return at their special website – NOT at www.turbotax.com, which charges the standard, undiscounted fee.
 

What is a pre-paid code?

A pre-paid code is a unique 13-digit number that gives the recipient a full or partial discount on the TurboTax Online fee.

Pre-paid codes are not online coupons; they are issued by TurboTax support agents for specific, pre-determined reasons.

Once redeemed, pre-paid codes cannot reused, and only one pre-paid code can be entered on a given return.

Pre-paid codes are good for one tax season and generally expire on the final IRS filing deadline (usually October 15) unless an earlier date is specified.

Redeeming a pre-paid code

  1. Sign in to TurboTax Online to open your return.
  2. Click the Print & File tab, and then click Continue.
  3. Go through the interview until you reach the You're Almost Ready to File screen (you'll need to go through several screens to get there).
  4. In the lower-left corner of your screen, click the Enter it here link, pictured below (click image to enlarge).

  5. On the Enter Your Pre-paid Code screen, enter your 13-digit pre-paid code into the designated field, pictured below (click image to enlarge).
  6. Continue through the interview to file your return.

Problems with your pre-paid code

If your code is not accepted, double-check to make sure you're entering the correct 13-digit number.

If you lost your code, or you get a message that it's already been redeemed, contact the issuer of the code for a possible replacement.
