Notification from TurboTax about Pending Debit for TurboTax Fees
If you filed your 2012 tax return with TurboTax and chose the Refund Processing Service option to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal tax refund, you may have received an email titled Account Debit Pending for TurboTax Fees from us.
This is because our records indicate that your refund, after the IRS adjusted it, wasn't enough to pay for your TurboTax fees. They may have adjusted your refund to satisfy existing debts including child support, back taxes, student loans and state taxes, among other reasons. This means we were unable to deduct your TurboTax fees from your federal tax refund, so we sent emails to customers to remind them to pay. You have approximately three weeks from the date the notification was sent to pay the fees. You will not be charged the $29.99 for the Refund Processing Service.
For your convenience, there are three easy ways to pay for your TurboTax fees and services:
- Do Nothing. When you signed up for the Refund Processing Service, you provided us with your bank account information and consented to allowing Intuit (through its processor) to debit your bank account in the event the final refund was not sufficient to cover the fees for TurboTax products and services. This means that, if you decide not to pay with online or over the phone, we will automatically debit your bank account on the date specified in your email.
- Pay online using your credit card.
- Call 1-888-808-1723 to pay by phone using your credit card (Sunday through Saturday, 5:00 am - 9:00 pm PST).
I had Education Credits on My Return and My Refund Was Delayed
On Friday, February 22, you received an email from TurboTax titled 1st Notice - Account Debit Pending for TurboTax Fees. We sent this email to you in error and apologize for any confusion. Since you filed a return with Form 8863 (Education Credit), which the IRS did not begin processing until Thursday, February 14, we realize your refund is currently in process with the IRS. You do not need to take any action at this time.
Please note that the IRS expects to process 9 out of 10 refunds in 21 days or less. You can check the status of your refund on the IRS Where's My Refund page.
