State Tax Forms Look Different When Printed

Some states require TurboTax to include special formatting, such as bar codes, on computer-generated tax forms. Although your printouts may look odd or "wrong", this special formatting allows your state to process your return much more quickly and efficiently.

If you're filing a return in one of the states listed below, and your return looks a little strange to you, don't worry. Your return is completely acceptable to your state taxing agency.

You might also notice that the filing instructions that printed with your state return contain a different mailing address than the filing instructions your state mailed to you. This is because returns that contain the special formatting are usually processed at a different location than returns without the special formatting.

Mail your state return to the address listed in the TurboTax filing instructions that printed with your state return.

For some states, such as New Jersey, this is intentional. These states do not want lines on returns that are prepared from computer software such as TurboTax.
