How do I save my Online return as a tax file?

You can obtain your .tax from the first screen of TurboTax Online after signing in. Under the Welcome screen you will see a series of blue links just underneath it. One of these links on the left will state Save your return to your computer. Doing this saves the .tax file to your computer which can be opened in TurboTax software.
