Using Refund Processing Services to Pay TurboTax Fees
What is Refund Processing?
In TurboTax, we give you the option to deduct additional fees, such as for e-filing or online state preparation, from your federal (not state!) tax refund. This option is called Refund Processing.
Note: If you're not getting a federal refund, you cannot use this payment option. Refund Processing cannot deduct your fees from your state tax refund.
If you don't have a credit or debit card to pay TurboTax fees, this option comes in handy. However, you should know that:
- There is an extra $29.95 refund processing service fee on top of your TurboTax fees. The extra fee is charged by University National Bank of Saint Paul, MN.
For example, if your TurboTax Online fee is $49.95, the amount deducted from your refund will be $79.90 ($49.95 + $29.95). The $29.95 charge, called a refund processing fee, goes to University National Bank of Saint Paul, MN.
- You need to e-file your federal return. Refund Processing services are not available for conventionally-filed federal returns.
- Refund processing services are simply another way of paying your TurboTax fee – it's not required for e-filing or direct deposit of your refund.
- Refund processing services will not delay nor speed up your refund.
- You need a bank account to use this service for direct deposit of your refund (be sure the name on the account is the same name on the return).
- Note: If you don't have a bank account, click here to learn about other options.
After choosing the Refund Transfer option and successfully e-filing your return, you'll receive a confirmation e-mail from University National Bank of Saint Paul, MN. They will provide you an estimated date of when to expect your tax refund from the IRS.
Important: Refund processing service fees are only charged once, when the IRS processes your return. If your return is rejected by the IRS, you may be asked to enter your payment information again. Don't worry. You will not be charged a second time.
