Make a Backup Copy of Your TurboTax State Program

You can make a backup copy of the TurboTax State program you installed, so you can reinstall it in the future.

Windows

  1. Click on the Start button and then click the search button or the search field.
    • Search for the folder which uses the XXY_12  name format (read below for details)
      • XX represents the 2-letter state abbreviation (CA for California, NY for New York, OH for Ohio, etc.)
      • Y represents the 1-letter type abbreviation:
        • I is for Individual (personal) returns
        • C is for Corporation returns
        • S is for S-Corporation returns
        • P is for Partnership returns
        • F is for Fiduciary (trust and estate) returns
      • _12 represents the year
  2. Once you've found it, copy the folder to your storage device, such as a CD or flash drive.
  3. To reinstall from the backup, note the original location of the folder, and copy it back to your hard drive in the same place.

Macintosh

  1. Use Spotlight Search to locate TurboTax [State] 2010 Installer (replacing [State] with the state name) on your Mac.
  2. Copy the file to a storage device, such as a CD or flash drive. Note: The Installer is saved to your hard drive after you download your state program.
