Why does my Refund or Tax Due amount keep changing while I'm preparing my return?
Until you complete your return, consider the Refund or Tax Owed amount in TurboTax as a work in progress, similar to the scoreboard during a football game or the changes in a stock's price during the course of a trading day.
The amount typically fluctuates as you proceed through the TurboTax interview and enter additional information.
The further along you are, the more accurate the number gets. By the time you get to the File section, your Refund or Tax Owed amount will have stabilized and reflect the true status of your tax refund or additional taxes owed.
What do the different colors mean?
Amounts in white (TurboTax Online) or green (TurboTax CD/Download software) indicate a refund, whereas red indicates that you owe that amount to the IRS or state tax authority.
A refund amount of $0 means you won't get a refund, nor do you owe money.
