What is Form 1099-S?
Form 1099-S is used to report sales or exchanges of real estate, including any of the following:
- Improved or unimproved land, including air space.
- Inherently permanent structures, including any residential, commercial or industrial building.
- A condominium unit and its appurtenant fixtures and common elements, including land.
- Stock in a cooperative housing corporation.
Mobile homes that are not permanently fixed to a foundation are not included in the reporting requirements for Form 1099-S. You should receive this form by February 1, of the current year.
How do I Enter Form 1099-S?
Here's how to get to the 1099-S screens in the TurboTax Online:
- Select the Tools button in the upper right-hand portion of the screen.
- Select Topic Search.
- When the window opens, type "1099-s" into the box, select the item that best describes the 1099-S that you received, and then select GO.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the information from your 1099-S.
Here's how to get to the 1099-S screens in the TurboTax desktop or CD/download version:
- Enter your cursor into the search box in the upper right-hand portion of the screen.
- Type "1099-s" into the box, click on the item that best describes the 1099-S that you received.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the information from your 1099-S.
