Information about Form 1099-G

The 1099-G is issued if you received certain payments from federal, state, or local governments, including: 

  • Unemployment compensation or paid family leave
  • State and local tax refunds
  • Business or farm tax refunds
  • Market gain on Commodity Credit Corporation loans
  • Taxable grants
  • Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance (ATAA/RTAA) payments

Enter the information in TurboTax exactly as it appears on your Form 1099-G.

How do I enter a 1099-G for unemployment or family leave?

Unemployment income -- and also paid family leave -- is now reported in its own section on the 2011 Income Summary (and not under Other Common as in prior years): 

 

How do I enter a 1099-G for state or local tax refunds?

Please follow these steps:

  1. Select the Federal Taxes tab, then Wages & Income.
  2. Click Explore on My Own.
  3. Scroll down to Other Common Income.
  4. Click the Start button next to State and Local Tax Refunds.

How do I enter a 1099-G for other types of income?

Please follow these steps:

  1. Select the Federal Taxes tab, then Wages & Income.
  2. Click Explore on My Own.
  3. Scroll down to Other Common Income.
  4. Select Visit All  or Start next to Other 1099-G Income
  5. Follow the prompts on the screens.
