Minnesota 2011: Property Tax Refund Incorrectly Calculated when Minnesota Income is Below Filing Requirements

In certain situations, TurboTax does not correctly calculate the Minnesota Property Tax Refund on Form M1PR. Line 1 of Form M1PR does not get calculated when ALL of the following applies to your tax situation.
- Filing a part year resident of Minnesota
- Income earned in Minnesota is under the filing requirements of $9,500.00
Workaround - Desktop
To workaround the issue, an override will need to be performed in order to allow the Minnesota Income to flow to Form M1PR:
- Open your tax return in TurboTax and click on the Forms icon located in the top right corner of the TurboTax window
- In the Forms in My Return section, locate and click on Schedule M1NR under Minnesota Individual
- Schedule M1NR will appear to the right of the screen, Go to line 23
- Above line 23, there is a check box to specify that you are under the minimum filing requirements, Right click on the check box and select Override
- Click on the red (X), this will remove the check
- In the Forms in My Return section locate and click on Form M1PR
- Click on the File menu and select Print
- Ensure that Form M1PR is selected and click on Print
- After Form M1PR has printed, go back to Schedule M1NR
- Again right click on the same check box that was overridden, select Cancel Override
