What kinds of medical transportation costs can I deduct?

You can deduct transportation as a medical expense when necessary for medical care including:

  • Bus, taxi, plane, car and ambulance fees;
  • Costs of a parent going with a child for medical care;
  • Person giving treatments to someone that can’t travel alone for care; and
  • Costs for visiting a mentally ill dependent when ordered as part of treatment.
