What kinds of medical expenses are deductible?

You can deduct things like doctor, dentist and lab fees (including co-pays); prescriptions, eyewear and transportation costs to and from medical facilities; and facility fees for hospital and emergency rooms.
You won't be able to deduct nonprescription health aids, such as vitamins, over-the-counter medications, toothpaste, health club memberships or controlled substances.
FYI: You need to have a lot of medical expenses in order to deduct them (they have to total more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income).
